This project revolved around the essential question: How do we balance the need for personal privacy with the need to keep a safe, orderly, and just society? To answer this question we looked at the 4th Amendment and how our rights relate to encounters with law enforcement. To show what we learned we chose a specific topic relating to the 4th Amendment and presented it in different mediums to our classmates. For my project I decided to focus on a strip of land that circles the country and extends 100 miles inland where our 4th Amendment rights are not in effect. When I first read about this I was fairly mind boggled by it. How had I never heard about a place in America that does not uphold constitutional standards? As I talked to classmates about it I realized no one really knew about it so I decided to create an infographic and tell other people about these border laws. Looking into it more I realized how complicated it is. There are tons of examples of misconduct because of the grey area about the law. I hope more awareness of this 100 mile zone and what officials are allowed to do will help decrease unlawfulness by officials and clarify the rights we have as Americans. |
